Learning the Ropes

  1. Reminds me very much of the classic Norman Rockwell illo where an exasperated-looking woman is consulting a book on corporal punishment of children, except in that one, she had a young boy held over her lap.

    Nice!

    1. That was the inspiration, to be sure, with apologies to Mr Rockwell. Just wanted to do my own take on it.

  2. Another great pic Red, just the thing for a new bride to read on the plane to her honeymoon!

    1. I hope she doesn't attempt to put it into practice on the plane - might get her thrown off.
But it would probably be a first in aviation history.

  3. I wish my wife had had that book at the start of our marriage. I may not have made some boneheaded mistakes. but she has been spanking me now for about 10 years and all is well.

  4. Love her surprised look - what did she expect to do with that brush? And idea of practising on pillow made me smile .... had similar idea of girl working her carpetbeater skills on bend over carpet while imagining her husband :)....
    lovely image....and lovely ma'am...

  5. Brilliant art work - and a hilarious scenario!! Well done! I hope there will be a follow-up - the lady still with the book in her hand, but now she has her husband over her knee, pants down, and she's just checking to make sure she's got everything right in preparation for the spanking.

    1. Ha-ha! Great idea! I'll have to give it some thought - the fun of the scenario emanates from the notion that she is not a natural spanko - she is just doing this because the book is telling her it is an absolute necessity.
Some other projects on the drawing table right now, but I will seriously consider adding a follow-up to the idea pile.

  6. Another great one from Red Rump! Love the capris and shoes (very Mary Tyler Moore looking outfit). Perhaps the brush and book were a recent gift from her mother, and will no doubt reveal why her father always seemed so agreeable around the house while she was growing up. I also like David's idea for a follow-up....replacing the pillow with a bare bottomed husband.

    1. It might also explain Dad's limp from an 'old war wound' which, oddly enough, always seemed to crop up every Saturday afternoon while she was at her ballet lessons....

And, yes, Mary (aka Laura ) is a perpetual inspiration - as you may already know, if you've been a visitor to the blog for awhile.

    2. Would love to see one of those Saturday afternoon sessions with mom and dad! Do you consider doing illustrations of older couples where the wife wears the pants in the family, and dear old dad does what he is told....even if the children know about it, and sometimes hear it.
