Tools of the Trade

So I was browsing around for artistic inspiration the other day, and started thinking about implements. Not just the time-honored Old Reliables - Madam's hairbrush, slipper, paddle, wooden spoon, etc. - but other, more unusual implements that might be employed for decimating deserving derrieres.

I would love to hear about the most unusual implement you've ever used or imagined using, or being used on you. To get things started, here is my vote for a common household item which seems an obvious tool for smacking butt, but which I have never heard of being used:

WTF is that?? you ask ?

Apparently, it's JUST a shoehorn. It certainly looks to me like the designer had a dual purpose in mind, though. After all, it seems an ideal spanking tool - long, narrow, with a wooden end slightly curved to mold nicely to the mound of a buttock.

Conveniently, they come in various lengths, from about 16 inches to over 30. This particular model also features a horn on a flexing spring, for an added zing to the sting:

Gulp.

They also come in different materials - plastic, rosewood, teak, beech...

Maybe I'm wrong - maybe these things are not suitable for some reason I can't fathom?

Or maybe people are using them all the time, and I've just never come across a mention of them?

But if anyone out there has ever used one, let us know how it works!

Or, if you have other suggestions for uncommon implements, let's hear them!

  1. I've seen them used in stories, Red. I'm not sure that they're the most practical of implements. The short ones are a little too short and the long ones are difficult to use in the traditional otk position, although they are good when the spankee is bent over, I find a riding crop is far more suitable though.

    1. I suspect the plastic ones would shatter easily, but the wooden ones appear formidable. And they come in so many different sizes - some no longer than a bath brush.

  2. I'm not 100% certain, but from your description and what I can tell from the photographs, these are shoe-horns, used to ease the heel into well-fitting shoes without breaking the shoe-heel part down with your foot.

Very much a thing of yesterday, they could once be found in most English homes - and were quite possibly used as your suggest here, too!

    1. Actually, they are still quite commonly available today - a quick Google search turned up a half dozen online vendors - and not all English - Amazon in the US has a decent variety.

  4. Certainly used the shoehorn. In some good hotels they can be found in the bedrooms along with a clothes brush. We bought a long shoehorn which hangs in the coat cupboard and comes out for an airing every now and again.
Another unusual implement we use is a 3' lenghth of black garden irrigation hose, the 1/2" size, which is very stiff. The hard plastic gives a severe stroke. This is left in the garage and used if yard chores are not properly executed.

    1. Ah, I knew someone out there would have thought of this before - I'd be curious to know how that long shoehorn compares to other implements.

      That garden hose sounds fiendish.

  5. Red Rump,

Well, this is new to me.
They look like they'd work quite well, especially on the curved part of the inner thigh - quite evil, though, I'd be willing to wager.
Now I'm going to have to find myself one of these and see just how effective they are (isn't there just something about household implements?..)

    My best,
    Dana

    1. Thanks, Dana - I'd enjoy thinking maybe I made a small contribution to your arsenal. Please let us know how it works out.

  6. Another common household item of yesteryear that was used to sting the bottoms of misbehaving offspring was the handle of the feather duster. There's not as much call for those now, but they came in all sorts of sizes, the ones used to spank were longer and often had handles made of cane, later plastic, they were like a light cane and could really sting a bottom or the backs of the legs.

    1. I never heard of that one, either. Like the shoehorns, you have to wonder if the makers were aware of the duality of their product. I've seen ads for brushes which definitely hint at their use as spanking implements.

  7. One time I used the leather scabbard from a sword. One of the advantages of running with a geek crowd, I suppose.

I also have a shoe tree, a horrible little thing that's a length of springy, whippy steel terminating in a thick, triangular head with one flat side. I've only used that a few times, as it has limited symbolic value and it's such an insanely concentrated little patch of pain that it sometimes feels pointlessly cruel.

    1. Thank you, Emily = I once saw a video of one of those things being used and could not for the life of me remember what they were called. A shoe-tree. DUH! Now that you've reminded me, I feel like an idiot.

    2. I read a book once which had a passage featuring two misbehaving children being soundly spanked with the leather scabbard of a sword, so it was used in the past when they were more common.

  8. Well done but I prefer the old fashion hairbrush!

  9. We had the first one, and it broke across my bottom the first time Ron used it on me. We now use one that is wooden, and it seems indestructible.

    1. The plastic ones do look fragile. The wooden ones look like they mean serious business.

      Thanks for commenting!

  10. Careful, Red - that curved surface makes the wooden one perfect for extended use between the cheeks and can give a good concentration across them. Also can make a lasting impression on the cheek-yhigh crease, especially administered in the diaper position - easy to overdo! The ones made of plastic or horn are also dangerous since they're so light they can be used in even more sensitive places.

As mentioned, theylre really convenient if you're in the right hotel and come along with the room.
